Syn:drom: Demo 2008

31/10/08  ||  Kampfar

Hello fuckface, Kamp:far speaking, and today I will tell you about this band from Sundsvall, Sweden, one playing technical death metal exactly. If you want to know why the fuck they ended up using a “:” in their band-name, ship them a mail and ask. But apart from that bit, this review will provide you with all the answers you need regarding Syn:drom and their latest, so I wouldn’t bother if I were you. Here goes. Let me start by quoting the band: We always produce, record and mix by our selves! That way we can control our work all the way to the end!

Bad idea!

How come? Well fuck me sideways if the production on “Demo 2008” isn’t inconsistent as my mental health on any given day. More precisely, it sounds as if the guys guessed the fucking knobs into place, each song namely sporting its own setting, though all of them bad in much the same way. No bottom, no edge, just fucking treble and a far from keen ear to details the way this lot dress up their tech death, at least when we speak 2008.

So, what about the music, is it good enough to hate the production for? Nah.

The reason why is them being preoccupied getting 50 riffs into each song, not making songs, and coupled with the aforementioned mix, they end up with something very close to white noise. Excellent musicians or not, what I hear is a boring blur with one or two riffs who might have sounded good if the whole affair hadn’t been draped in manure.

If you insist that tech death rules all universes, both known and unknown, lend your ears, but for those with a functional pair I would rather recommend checking out Soreption. Also Swedish, also tech, only way better.
